PROJECT BUTTERFLY

Turning farm lands into nature.

Biodiversity is essential for life. A balanced ecosystem needs a community of different organisms, who can’t survive without each other.

After hundreds of years of intensive farming, biodiversity has been lost in many corners of Denmark. We’re on our way to change that.

COWS ARE SMART!

We are supporting Michael Kjerkegaard, a farmer from Vejle. His mission is to transform traditional farming lands back into organic nature, the way it looked 400-500 years ago. And he’s doing so by taking care of his cows!

Cows have a particular taste - they eat grass and avoid most flowers. They are a great animal to farm, as they develop the area and improve the biodiversity of it. To compare, goats love eating flowers - and so all insects, plants and small animals who need flowers to survive, disappear with them.

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE

Together with Vejle Kommune we will restore farm parcels back to their natural state. The lands selected for this project have a high biodiversity potential. We are replanting the original plants and bushes, to bring back important insects such as butterflies and bees.

These insects then attract birds, spiders and important organisms living in the soil, who filter our air and water and turn waste into resources. The result is a balanced climate, which we all need to survive.

THE FINAL IMPACT

By supporting Michael and Vejle Kommune in this project, we work on:

  • Increasing biodiversity
  • More fertile soil, even beyond the area
  • Beautiful and rich wildlife

Every time you shop from our collection with SPOOR, you help us bring more resources to the project.
